Shannon Battisson - Director and Architect

Shannon Battisson LFRAIA

DIRECTOR | ARCHITECTURE

Shannon is an architect with close to 20 years of experience in the industry and was the 2022-23 National President for the Australian Institute of Architects.

Graduating from the University of New South Wales, Shannon returned to Canberra to commence work with a small design and construct company with a strong environmental focus.  These early years taught her a great respect for the environment, and a passion for the sacredness of home. Dedicated to working towards a world where all people have access to the essential elements of home (safety, comfort, and retreat) Shannon works hard to ensure these spaces are also climate responsive, affordable and joyful spaces to live in.

Shannon has designed and delivered projects across Australia, Hong Kong and the USA.  Projects include educational facilities (ANU, Burgmann Anglican School, School of Signals(ADF)), commercial office fitouts (Civil Aviation and Safety Authority, Ray White, ADF Remuneration Tribunal), retail/hospitality fitouts (Canberra Centre, Gungahlin Town Centre), and multiple award winning, high performance solar passive housing projects.

Shannon is a dedicated contributor to her profession and regularly volunteers her time to ensure the benefits of good architecture are a valued part of the conversation of our cities.  She enjoys public speaking, writing for various publications, architectural photography and contributing to events big or small that put good design into the hands of everyone.  Shannon is a passionate supporter of modernist architecture and works vigorously to share Canberra’s rich modernist architectural legacy with the public.

The Team

ARCHITECTURE + INTERIOR DESIGN

Shannon & Sarah have gathered a diverse team of dedicated design professionals who work across all areas of architecture and interior design. The studio is a much cherished environment where all members are supported and encouraged to continue their growth as designers no matter where in their career they may be.

Unlike many traditional architecture focused studios, The Mill runs both architecture and interior design streams concurrently across all projects. This provides a wonderful level of collaboration, learning and cross fertilisation of ideas. It also means clients will likely work with every member of the team over the life of their project.

Our studio is a second home to us all, and we pride ourselves on the fun filled atmosphere within and the sunny, tree lined outlook beyond. We support a better work life balance and often have our families within the studio, most often our four legged family members. Our studio is open by appointment, and we welcome our clients both new and old stop by to be a part of the work we do.
