The Duplex Oasis

A new duplex in the leafy streets of Canberra’s old suburb, Aranda is a juxtaposition to its surrounds.

Facades are stepping in and out, for privacy and separation. Boxing the light into the living areas, balconies and courtyards. Two interior schemes were introduced to capture both traditional and modern dwellers.

Black accents and dark floors are balanced with light timbers to warm up the living space. While the modern scheme features a gentle palette of warm grey, dark wood and white, which segues effortlessly into garden pockets and brings light into areas that need it.

The ultra-thin bench top is propped up by steel frame legs, a utility space making a cameo as a furniture piece, encouraging sophisticated living. The exterior mixes concrete textures, black cladding and stone elements which stand tall within the green surrounds.

Designed in conjunction with Define Studio and McGrath Estate, The Mill provided specifications on how this duplex development could explore modern sophistication through selecting the exterior colour scheme and materials and the interior finishes, fixtures and equipment with custom kitchen and bathroom design.
