House of Angles
O'CONNOR, CANBERRA
Standing on an angular block in O’Connor, a family looked to The Mill to bring a new sense of vibrancy to the extension of their home.
With the ambition to create a space that would simply amaze anyone who entered, we worked closely with the client to identify key elements that would shift the style and flow of the home.
With various angles to work with, the challenge was not only to design but construct a seamlessly built home that the family could comfortably enjoy. Boasting their own bold, yet poised style, the owners are collectors of art, and wanted a distinct interior that would highlight their diverse collection.
The kitchen being a central area of activity was a crucial focus in the design. Filled with beautiful natural light and high ceilings, there is an emphasised openness to the home, removing any sense of ‘clutter’ that was once felt. Matte black custom cabinetry was built into the angular space, as well as an integrated planter box and connected buffet unit. Featuring brass facets, a limestone benchtop, pockets of timber look shelving and matching fixtures, the kitchen perfectly pairs modern and natural finishes for a complete style.
Creating a seamless connection from room to room, we carried the same palette of materials and colours through to the study, bedroom and utility areas. The ensuite, now a tranquil oasis features a freestanding bath and spacious shower with stunning black tiles and brass fixtures.
Completing the home is a standout three-sided fireplace covered in three-dimensional tiles and black marble, uniting the living space and kitchen as a place to retreat. What was once a confined and disarranged house, is now an open, light-filled home that is an incredible reflection of the owner’s bold style and way of living.
